Meet Scott Mazerall of Maziply Toys & Collectibles in Kingston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Mazerall.

Scott, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My wife, Kerri, and I were both bankers who knew there was more in store for us. We started selling toys online out of our home in 2014. Within five months, we were making enough to have Kerri leave her job and grow our business full time from home. The first month that she worked from home, our business tripled in revenue. While this was great, our home was quickly being taken over by inventory and we needed a solution.

This brought us to the Kingston Collection (about ten minutes from where we live) to open a retail space and continue to operate our online business. We opened the doors to our retail store in 2015. While things started slow in retail, our online business continued to grow.

Our online growth continued as we started making agreements with toy brands to protect their value on the Amazon marketplace with exclusive agreements to sell their products on Amazon. This was a win for them because they no longer have to worry about MAP violations and brand devaluation. It was a win for Amazon because they are no longer tying up their money and still make a fee from us to sell it on Amazon. It was a win for us because we have the exclusive arrangements. But most of all, it’s a win for the customer, because we ensure that the products they are looking for are always in stock and available.

Come early 2017, the business had continued to grow to the point that further growth would require my full time attention, so I left my job as a banker to focus my full time efforts on Maziply. Since then, we have enjoyed significant growth.

The key to our online success has been patience, research, and commitment to the brands that we work with, our success in our retail store comes with how we interact with our customers. Kerri and I are both big kids at heart. In fact we even got married at Disney World. When kids come in, don’t be surprised to see me doing some magic, making balloon animals, juggling, or playing with toys throughout the store. We also do a really good job understanding what toys are going to impact kids in the best way by taking the time to interact and ask questions.

We look forward to the coming holiday season where we know we will continue to grow, thanks to our amazing customers, who recently named us Family Favorite Toy Store at Boston Parents Paper.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No great things come easy. I see these programs online that tell you how easy it is to make money online. While you can make money, it is hard work and commitment that creates success. As an entrepreneur, we often work twice as many hours to make half the money that we did when employed. But it’s seeing your vision actually in play that makes it totally worth it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Maziply Toys & Collectibles – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Maziply Toys & Collectibles specializes in toys, games, gifts, and collectibles. However, online, we have also started to expand into other industries as well.

While, we have so many milestones or awards that give us an incredible sense of pride, our proudest moment is the moment we decided to take a chance and start this business.

I truly believe we connect with customers in a way that you won’t find in most places, regardless of industry. I’m incredibly proud of what we bring to the community. We’re also big kids at heart and simply LOVE to play and have fun.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, we plan on continued growth. We are currently working on expansion into International markets, adding a larger selection of products, and may even start to expand our brick and mortar business to new locations.
