Meet Bryan Finocchio of 33 Munroe in Lynn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Finocchio.

Bryan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started in 2011 when I was sitting in a nursing lecture when of my favorite professor said she could no longer teach due to being diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer (also have had several family members diagnosed with cancer as well). Coming from a creative background (theatre and dance) I knew that nursing wasn’t going to give me the creative outlet I needed, so I had to think of what else I could do (in addition to nursing) as a way to given back and show my support. I created Catwalk for the Cure which was a fashion charity event that incorporated developing and professional designers in the Greater Boston area who create looks for models, Boston notables, and most importantly cancer survivors and those currently going through treatment. After planning one event, I knew this was something that I love to do, and now part of who I am. Since then we have partnered with organizations such as Boston Medical Center (Catwalk for BMC Cancer Care) and Susan G. Komen of New England (Catwalk for the Cure) to produce these inspirational events. To date, Catwalk Events, have helped to raise over $1 million for cancer education, services, and research. With the success of Catwalk Events, we decide, in 2015, to focus on the design and planning side of things. We now produce two “Catwalk Events” (always room for more) each year as well as weddings, photoshoots, floral design, nonprofit/corporate events, and private parties!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course! I feel it wouldn’t be a small business without struggles. I think the biggest would be the fear of not being able to succeed. Some days you wake up and say “can I do this” or “am I wasting my time”, but having the proper support system makes it all possible (thanks to my husband, family, and friends). Event and wedding planning/design is a tough market to jump into especially when there are many various startup and established companies in any given area. The idea is to try and stand out and build connections within the area. Planning an event is largely collaborative, so having a great team of vendors whom you can trust is always a plus. That is what creates the most successful events.

To date these fashion related charity events have raised over $1 million dollars, and counting, and bring together several groups of people for one major cause.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s tough because there are so many! My high school years were my best years. I was involved heavily involved in the drama department, always in plays and musical, performing in concerts. Getting the leading role in Man of La Mancha was definitely a great moment for me, 4 years of hard work paid off!
