Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Robinson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
How we got started is an interesting story! In 2009, my husband Oren and I received a call from our oil man. He knew we loved cats, and he knew of a cat that needed rescuing. That day we set out on It’s All About the Animals’ first rescue mission! We literally dug through the filth at a crack house to save our first animal, a cat we appropriately named Rescue. We could not stop at one, and the rest is history. Today our 501(c) (3) non-profit has a 7 member Board of Directors and approximately 28 hard-working volunteers, and no one is on payroll! How we got to where we are today is simple: one animal at a time, doing the best we can for each animal along the way.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No path worth taking is ever smooth! We see firsthand a lot of heart-breaking situations that no living creature should ever have to endure. The hardest struggle is knowing that there are so many more animals out there that need our help but with limited resources we are unable to get to them in time.
Please tell us about It’s All About the Animals.
It’s All About the Animals, Inc. is a no-kill shelter with a mission to give homeless, abused, and abandoned adult cats and kittens an opportunity to receive the love, care, and shelter they need until they find the loving homes they deserve. Our shelter also serves as a means of rescuing our adult cats and kittens from premature euthanasia. No cats will be “put down” unless they are suffering incurable pain. A primary focus of our mission is to educate adults and children on the importance of spaying, neutering, and responsible care and treatment of animals.
Our shelter is free roaming with access to a safe, enclosed outdoor area, and operates solely on donations, fundraising, and grants. All cats available for adoption have been spayed/neutered and have received all vaccines for distemper and rabies. They have been de-wormed, de-flea’ed, treated for ear mites, tested for leukemia, FIV, and heartworm. All kittens are treated for coccidia and giardia. Each cat is fitted with a microchip and becomes part of a permanent professionally managed database.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have asked for more volunteer assistance along the way. We have an amazing group of volunteers with varying talents. One of our volunteers hand knits cat toys filled with organic cat nip. Some volunteers foster cats and kittens that need extra socializing. Some help with a wide range of office tasks and fundraising efforts. These are just a few examples. The need is enormous and we could not do what we do without our volunteers.
