Meet Adam Bodner of Body Toppers in Medford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Bodner.

Adam, please share your story with us.
Body Toppers started in the late 1970s by my Father Paul Bodner in the basement of my Grandparents house in Nahant. He would come home after working down Revere Beach to print T-shirts using homemade equipment. Shortly after word got out and quick success he moved to his first real location in Medford. Quickly making a name in the community Body Toppers became the place to get imprinted apparel for local businesses, schools, events and much much more. 1985 was a breakout year as Boston experience success in all 4 major professional sports teams which had the city buzzing with excitement. The Patriots run to the Super Bowl had the business producing thousands of Squish the Fish and Berry the Bears shirts. Over the years we have done contract licensed T shirts for World Series Champions Boston Red Sox and Patriots Super Bowl Victories.

In the worst of times during 9/11 and the Marathon bombings, we teamed up with our customers to raise money for various charities supporting those affected by these events printing United We Stand shirts and Boston Strong. In 2013, my father passed away and I am running the business ever since. We are heading into 40 years of serving the community we are proud to be a part of and love.

Has it been a smooth road?
Just like in any business, there are many factors that you cannot control that can affect your business. From price increases on your materials/supply because of natural disasters to the financial collapse in 2007 the road isn’t always smooth but we do our best to keep moving forward and provide quality and service no matter what.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Body Toppers story. Tell us more about the business.
I am involved in everything from A-Z from taking the order to printing the order. I am hands on and when I am not spending time with our customers I am helping in any aspect of my business to make it better. I think our work ethic and caring about everyone that walks through the door sets us apart. We do not like to say no to anyone whether it is 1 shirt or 10,000 shirts. We Value everyone and know that that one shirt to somebody can be very special to them. If we say we will do something we will make sure we get it done.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the imprinting part of the business will pretty much be the same as it has been for the past 40 years. There is no better way to express yourself or promote yourself then by wearing imprinting sportswear. The garments and what we print on is another story. The fashion trends change so quickly and there are more and more products and styles that come out every day. Sublimation is becoming more and more popular which is when you dye the image right into the shirt. I see this becoming more and more mainstream over the next 5-10 years.
