Meet Roman Szpond of Inner Strength Studios in Watertown and Sudbury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roman Szpond.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Roman. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved helping others reach their fitness goals through personal training and in 1996 got started. After going to my first yoga class soon after that and feeling the supreme benefits, I decided that I’ll never stop practicing yoga and my coaching/training started to be more informed by yoga.

I’ve researched and studied psychology, spirituality, religion, and Eastern traditions all of my life and discovered that the work I did with clients seemed to have a geometrical expansion to them. One day I was seeking a name to call the work I do and I came up with Inner Strength.

Being an entrepreneur, I saw how this could not only contribute meaningfully to clients but also carve out a career path for me, I opened my first yoga studio in Watertown 14 years ago. Since then I’ve opened two others, one in West Roxbury which was sold and one in Sudbury which is thriving.

I have plans to open two more studios in the Boston area.

My partner Felicia and I own and operate the studios and are proud loving parents to Hudson 5 and Harper 3.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
NO it has not been smooth. However, owing and operating a yoga studio is NOT common sense. There are specific strategies and practices that assist in the inevitable challenges that we all face. Yoga is a person business and not only do the students vary but the staff does as well. Becoming a true leader of the heart and soul required that I grow and mature. The ‘people’ part of the business is not only the most challenging but also the most rewarding. On a daily basis, I meet a new person in ‘need’ of a better quality of life and each and every encounter allows me to deepen my compassion and understanding of humanity. Looking into the hearts and souls take courage and maturity.

I have to say that, with the exception of surrounding myself with smarter, successful business people for counsel and advice, I owe all of my successes to my personal practice of yoga. The practice sculpts and strengthens my resolve, presence, resources, responsibility, patience and love.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Inner Strength Studios – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
For nearly two decades, Inner Strength Studios has been obsessed with providing the ideal space where physical, mental, emotional and spiritual transformation happens through the practice of Real, Powerful, Yoga.

Inner Strength is built on 4 principles or pillars:

Power: Gives the students the power, or ability to TAKE ACTION and progress towards what’s important in their lives.

Alignment: Helps students to align with their inner strength as well as any guidance from spiritual sources.

Spirit: Each student is introduced to their spiritual and inner intimacy.

Emotion: Through the practice at Inner Strength an “emotional fitness’ develops allowing for students to weather the emotional storms of life.

Each class is infused with the 4 Pillars. There are also workshops, training, social events and such to foster deeper, more meaningful relationships.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Inner Strength’s brand is growing in popularity as, in our opinion, the yoga industry has gotten watered down and many are seeking authentic personal development. Inner Strength plans to grow with this growing need. We have 2 other studio in the planning phase.
