Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Seeley.
Dave, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After twelve years as an architect in Boston, I swapped careers, and became an illustrator. Most of my work is for publishing, video games, film, and advertising, and is focused on the fantastical genres of science fiction and fantasy. My background in architecture was very helpful in both business practices and methodology for a creative work flow. Clients include the Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Halo, Battlestar Galactica, Aliens, Terminator, and James Bond franchises.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The path has been a meandering one, though mostly smooth. Helping clients solve problems has been a key to making my contributions indispensable, and retaining their ongoing business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
In my business, branding is all about the look of your portfolio, so that is what sets me apart from others in the field.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve been making art and building “stuff” as far back as I can remember, and that was encouraged by my parents. I was a strong student, so architecture seemed like a natural fit. I enjoyed my years as an architect, but not the need to manage co-workers, and the many mundane aspects of the profession. I’d been a lifelong “fan” of pop culture, and decided to make the jump to a career creating content for those “worlds.”
