Today we’d like to introduce you to Wellington Palma.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Wellington. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Embondeiro Capoeira Group of Boston was founded by Mestre Cabeça (pronounced Cabesa), a Master of Capoeira. Mestre Cabeça began his four-decade long career in Capoeira Brasil, one of the oldest Capoeira groups of Brazil. After several decades as one of the highest ranking members within Capoeira Brasil, Mestre Cabeça decided to start his own group with the goal of maintaining the martial art’s integrity and authenticity intact.
Mestre Cabeca along with other formandos, extremely experienced and graduated Capoeira students trained by Mestre Cabeca himself, have continued to spread the beautiful martial art to other parts of Brazil, Africa, and Europe. Now our group has arrived in Boston, and we are looking for dedicated students who are looking to have fun, get in shape, try something new, and learn the beautiful martial art of Capoeira.
Our group has two main objectives: pass on authentic Capoeira to our students, and highlight the martial art element of Capoeira. With us, you will learn an effective martial art that is the product of Brazilian culture and history.
If you’re ready to get fit mentally and physically, build confidence, be challenged, and meet new friends, all while learning authentic Capoeira, then bring some gym clothes and a positive attitude and join us at Embondeiro Capoeira Boston!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Given that we have only been in the Boston – Cambridge area for only a few months, we are still building our student roster. However, given our teaching methodology and dedication to new students, we are confident that we will have a sizeable dedicated following soon.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Embondeiro Capoeira Boston – what should we know?
Capoeira Embondeiro – Boston has its roots grounded in the authenticity and the martial aspects of Capoeira. Our group’s methodology focuses on developing a well-balanced Capoeirista, the name for someone who practices Capoeira. Our Capoeiristas learn how to play a solid Capoeira game in any Capoeira roda (pronounced hoda) an environment where multiple Capoeiristas spar with each other without contact to a tempo dictated by the speed of the live Capoeira music (see the video on our homepage: https://www.embondeirocapoeiraboston.com). In addition, our students will learn how to play all three Capoeira instruments, and are able to apply the martial art in real life self-defense situations.
Our Capoeira classes are second to none because you will not learn Capoeira as a choreographed dance where you are just going through the motions. Instead, you will learn how to read your opponent, predict their attacks, quickly dodge strikes, efficiently counter-attack, and create an opportunity to take down any opponent.
Our students play the Capoeira game like chess master chess players. Every move you make has a purpose, and your end game results in a checkmate for your opponent.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important quality to our success is commitment. We believe that if we are committed to our students, our craft, and our community we will be truly successful. We are the type of organization who is looking to spread the positive vibes created by Capoeira to those in our community.
