Meet Julianne Donley of Miniter Group in South of Boston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianne Donley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my insurance career quite by accident. I had plans to go to law school and offered to “help my father for the summer”. That summer has now lasted over 30 years! I jumped in the car with him that first day to call on lenders in New England and never looked back. I had the privilege and honor of working with my father as my mentor. A gentleman of old fashioned values who believed a handshake and the spoken word meant everything, Arthur Donley emulated integrity and the strong principles upon which I run my company today. His legacy known today as our “Miniter culture” is what sets us apart and makes us unique in our industry.

When I first joined my father, he had made the decision to sell all his general lines business and focus on a new product which was exclusive to Lenders. I spent the next fifteen years traveling throughout New England and selling our service. With the highest standards for customer service as our cornerstone, I began broadening our scope, changing from a retail office to a Managing General Agency where would have control of our claims turnaround time and service. My father retired in 2002 at which time I became Miniter Group’s Principal and President/CEO.

In my new role, I expanded our product offerings as well as extended our footprint to 45 states. And while we have become one of the fastest growing insurance and tracking companies in our industry, I still apply the culture of Miniter’s early years with the innovative approach we apply to our business today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

We have survived several economic downturns, massive lender consolidations, and ever changing and increasing regulatory requirements on both the banking and insurance side of the business. While many of our insurance carriers have exited the business over the years and many of our competitors have sold to large commercial insurers, we have remained strong and independent.
