Meet Shelly Berman-Rubera of Small Business Results in Newton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelly Berman-Rubera.

Shelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At the young age of 22, I knew that I was an entrepreneur. I had ambition, passion and creative ideas for producing results. I was teaching dance to pay for my college education and my classes were in demand. I decided to open my own dance school, which I operated for 9 years and it grew to be the 2nd largest dance school in the city of Boston.

After dance, I became one of the first Personal Trainers and lifestyle Consultants on the East Coast and owned and operated that company for 23 years. As a true entrepreneur, I got bored and needed the next challenge. It was then that I realized my love for starting and growing businesses and became Certified as a Business Coach and have been the President of SBR-Small Business Results for the past 13 years.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is no smooth ride to business ownership or being an entrepreneur.

I started my coaching business at the time of the downturn in the economy. My ideal target client was the small business owner and they simply had no money. I needed to prove my worth and be very creative in my sales and marketing approach. It takes time to be able to generate enough revenue for payroll for much needed support. I was single parenting, taking care of an aging parent and running the business! Yes, challenging, but so exhilarating and rewarding.

Small Business Results is a business coaching and marketing strategy company. We specialize in working with coaches, consultants and professional services. Shelly Berman-Rubera is the founder of a “6 Step” Strategic Framework that leads business owners to better run their business and to propel revenue. What were you like growing up?
I grew up on a dead end street where 35 children lived. I was always social, athletic, competitive and full of fun. I was always captain of my teams and a natural leader. I was often sought out for counsel from my peers and seemed wise beyond my years. I was always a lover of dance, music, athletics and learning.
