Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Delaney.
Sean, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Family business of buying and selling antique clocks was started in the late 1960’s by my parents John and Barbara Delaney. I joined the family business along with my brother John in 1989-90 right after college but we grew up in the business. Today we have the largest selection of antique clocks in the Country. There are over 200 early tall case clocks in stock at all times and hundreds of wall and shelf clocks. All of our clocks are displayed in an early post and beam carriage house.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course in every business there are ups and downs but for the most part it’s been a smooth road. 2008-2009 was a difficult time for most in the Antique business (especially for generalist) but most businesses were affected by this difficult period.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Delaney Antique Clocks – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in early tall case clocks made by individuals but we have a wide selection of wall and shelf clocks as well. Most of the clocks that we sell were made here in New England by some of our country’s most famous clock makers. We have become a destination for people all over the world who like antique clocks. When you visit, you will see the largest selection of tall case clocks for sale in the Country.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I do not see any big changes for our business in the future but who knows what the future will bring. We are currently a second-generation business and it would nice to see a third generation continue it.
