Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Hopkins and Amy Beckwith.
Beth and Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A passing conversation about skincare led to an in-depth inquiry into the American skincare experience. As a lifelong nature lover and art enthusiast, I wondered why I was not more interested in beauty products. It seemed there was a missed opportunity to celebrate the vast and diverse botanical heritage of the Americas.
The more I investigated, the more apparent and imperative it became to express the benefit and vitality of these magnificent ingredients in simple relatable products.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s a privilege to be doing this- I have exposed myself to every variety of judgment, rejection, disappointment and frustration, but I’ve learned to use those experiences to galvanize the vision, knowing that this work is meaningful enough to keep me only more excited and curious about how to make it all work. Having conflicting expert opinions regarding natural preservation, for instance, has been an area that requires constant vigilance and reassessment. Standards need to be continually questioned to improve, and that’s sometimes uncomfortable to take on in this industry.
Please tell us about Shamanuti.
We have a core line of botanically-based, organic skincare. Our company was founded on a deep and abiding respect for nature’s curative and regenerative powers. Our ability to translate these raw materials into products that optimize the intelligence of natural ingredients is what we’re most proud of. We cater to the high expectations of a discerning clientele that demands effectiveness as well as an alignment with a healthy, non-toxic lifestyle. The products do not over-promise or under-deliver.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I might have moved a little more slowly at certain phases of our development and more carefully assessed some partnerships, which in business are akin to marriage and deserve the same level of consideration and commitment. I’ve learned to never put myself in the position where I can’t say no or be allowed to take the time necessary to properly assess the opportunity.
