Thanks for sharing your story with us Van. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After spending 20 years in corporate accounting, I decided to ‘venture out’ on my own. I had always wanted to own my own business, and an accounting firm seemed the logical choice.
However, I didn’t want to be just a tax practice! I wanted to work exclusively with small businesses, adding value to the client relationship and helping make a difference in the owner’s personal lives.
17 years later, we’re doing just that. We have grown each and every year starting, growing from a sole practitioner to adding employees and expanding into more and more office space.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy, or smooth! Growing a business is hard work, it takes a lot of discipline and attention to customer needs.
And just when you think you have it right, something gets in your way. Employee relations, banking, competitive pressures, adapting to new technologies, the list goes on and on.

We are not your father’s accounting firm.
At Counting House, we specialize in small business and provide a suite of services designed to help our clients increase profits, reduce taxes, and sleep well at night.
First, we provide a layer of bookkeeping and accounting with monthly financial reporting.
Next, we manage the process, and provide ongoing management consulting to the owner.
Lastly, we provide tax planning throughout the year, not AFTER the year is over, and we also prepare all business and personal tax returns.
We become the BOSS of the back end of the business so the owner can do what they do best!
