So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a teenager, I had really bad cystic acne. Nothing seemed to work so I decided to go to cosmetology school and figure out a way to clear my own skin. Once I did that, I realized I wanted to prevent others from going through the physical and emotional pain I went through. I also became vegetarian 30 years ago and that is when I started looking into organics and healthier alternatives since I also was a licensed cosmetologist. I became vegan about 20 years ago which is also when I became a mom. Wanting to create a healthier world for my daughter was really the impetus in starting a healthier spa alternative. As they say, when you know better- you do better. I wanted to show customers that being green did not have to look like a campsite and that organic products were just as fabulous if not more so. I love helping people feel better about themselves. And helping to maintain our earth while being good to ourselves is a win-win.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have always been ahead of the curve for healthier options, so being green, organic, holistic and vegan (even before wholefoods) took a lot of explanation and it was much costlier on my part. But I knew it was the right thing to do and now it is becoming mainstream. So, my loyal customers have known me for years and know we are the real deal and not a fad.
