Today we’d like to introduce you to Gwen Buchanan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been in the spa industry since graduating from Catherine Hinds in 2001.
Since then I have worked in the many diverse aspects of Aesthetics, from working in various spas in New England, popular makeup lines in Boston and New York, to instructing Aesthetic vendor certification classes. I was asked by Carol the founder of Sea Grass Therapies to be her business partner in 2016.
I am also a part of the continuing education program at Essentials and IDE in Woburn, MA where I love helping Aestheticians grow into stronger and more effective skin care professionals.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh my gosh, I think if anyone tells you that being a small business owner is nothing but smooth sailing, then they must be cruising the calmest of seas on the world’s best catamaran.
I have always run other people’s businesses, so I’m a new business owner and let me tell you there have been a lot of waves. There are times of panic when I look at an appointment calendar with no appointments, crossing my fingers as I check the business banking account, worrying about staffing issues and how the rent will get paid, but in the end, it works out.
Lucky for me though that I have my business partner Carol (Sea Grass Therapies founder) who has owned the business for 6 years and has survived all the tides, rip currents and sunny days at the spa.
She has talked me down from the cliff a few times. LOL
Carol has been my rock and my guide. Through her I have learned to have faith and not to sweat the small stuff. I’m grateful that she asked me to be her partner in this amazing establishment.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sea Grass Therapies Medical Spa – what should we know?
Sea Grass was founded by Carol Parker 6 years ago. Our spa is sea inspired and Carol left out no detail when it came to décor. That is why as soon as people enter our doors you can see them instantly relax.
We specialize in massage, the latest trends in facials, “Detox” massage and body treatments, full body waxing, eyelash extensions, lash and brow tinting, CooLifting, and coming soon Rezenerate and much, much more!
We are a small business with a huge impact on our community. Our staff volunteers once a month and the local nursing home.
We are not just another cookie cutter franchise. We truly love our staff and our motto here is always family first.
