Today we’d like to introduce you to Barry McArdle.
Barry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Dr. Lisa Schulman and I decided back in late 1999 that there was not enough continuing education for area dentists regarding the then burgeoning field of cosmetic and esthetic dentistry. So we sent out a survey letter to gauge the interest of local dentists in forming a study club for that purpose. The response was overwhelmingly positive, we organized meetings and SEDA was born. Since then, what we envisioned as a small group of seacoast dentists has evolved into an association of hundreds that serves the greater New England dental community with continuing education on dentistry that not only restores function, but also enhances appearance. We have nationally and internationally renowned lecturers that represent what is to dentistry like having Warren Buffet from the financial world or Bill Gates from the tech world come and speak in their fields. We have had dentists come to meetings where they could hear a particular dentist speak from as far away as New York, The Carolinas, D.C. and Florida. We regularly have meetings with dentists in attendance from all 6 New England states as not only is the education top notch, but Portsmouth is one of the top vacation destinations in all of New England and attendees will often stay for the weekend after a Friday meeting. SEDA also boasts one of the lowest dues structures of any dental continuing education organization at just over $10.00 a credit hour, making it an unsurpassed value for dentists anywhere in this country.
Has it been a smooth road?
Promoting SEDA was at first somewhat cumbersome, but with the advent of online emailing services, that challenge has been overcome.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Seacoast Esthetic Dentistry Association – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What sets us apart and makes us most proud is the value our services offer our membership. Most attendees can get all the continuing education that their state dental boards mandate with extremely high quality at a cost that is very affordable, even for the young dentist just starting out.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Boston is just a short distance from Portsmouth and offers so many cultural opportunities that our member dentists visit there regularly. However, the traffic situation is so frustrating that they are glad they can get such quality dental continuing education while remaining on the New Hampshire seacoast.
