Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve & Joanna Bell.
Fred B. Bell opened the doors of Bell’s Barber Shop in Reading, Ma in 1935. He started another shop in Stoneham, Ma several years later. In 1991 both shops merged together at the present location in Reading. We are truly a family shop in that Fred, his 3 sons, daughter, 2 daughter in laws and 3 granddaughters have all and some still are working at the shop today. Fred’s youngest son Steve and his wife Joanna have run the business for the past 17 years. We have built many long lasting relationships and friendships with over 3 generations of customers.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?

We take pride in giving quality haircuts with great customer service. We are a full-service shop offering a variety of services from that first haircut to senior citizen discounts and everyone in between. Specializing in all types of haircuts including regular haircuts, fades and long hair styles. Also beard trims, hot lather shaving, hair color and grey blending. Whether you want to modernize your style or are looking for something “classic” we can accommodate your needs. For 3 years in a row we have been voted best barbershop in Reading. We have a great staff and love what we do. It’s that simple.
What were you like growing up?
Steve and Joanna both grew up in Reading but didn’t know each other growing up. In 1981 Steve worked with his brother Dick in the Stoneham shop and Joanna worked with brother Bob in the Reading shop. One-day Steve walked into the Reading shop looking for his brother Bob and Joanna thought he was a customer. It sounds corny but the rest is history. We will be married 35 years in October.
