Today we’d like to introduce you to John Zarrella.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It’s all about helping people and really caring for the person in front of you. And that’s why I initially chose this route. I am very fortunate that every day I have the opportunity to improve someone’s health. Over the years I’ve noticed that most people have a desire to be healthy and understand the importance of a healthy mouth. My personal goal is to help as many people as I can have sustainable, quality oral health, which ultimately leads to better overall health.
People tend to gravitate to places where they feel cared for and supported. Patients generally care as much about the way they feel in an office as they do the quality of their treatments. People just want to feel comfortable and like an actual person, not a customer being sold a bunch of treatments they don’t understand. One of the principles I have built my practice on is the comfort of my patients. Each patient is unique in their needs and I think keeping that in mind is what has led to the practice’s success.
I am beyond blessed to have loyal patients that find my practice to be a comfortable, stress-free place. Even those that think all dentists are evil come to find I’m on the good guy’s team and have only their best interests in mind.
Has it been a smooth road?
Dental insurance has become more limiting over the years, creating a headache for both the patients and us.
There are still plenty of solutions to all patients whether or not their yearly plan has run out or they have no dental insurance at all. We can always find a way to work with you to set you up with a healthy bite and a healthy pocketbook.
Other than that, it has been an exciting and fulfilling career. I love what I do because I enjoy the work itself as much as I do helping people and building relationships.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Zarrella Dentistry story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a general dentist and work with kids all the way up to the elderly. Helping patients overcome their dental fears and anxieties so they can get the help they need to save their teeth is really what we are known for. As mentioned earlier, we make anyone and everyone comfortable.
I am most proud of my dental team. Everyone here is so friendly and positive. We all enjoy working towards the same goal of getting our patients’ mouths healthy and smiling like they should be. We also have some good senses of humor around here.
One of the things that sets us apart is our ability to solve common aches and pains people deal with on a daily basis, e.g. neckaches and headaches, a sore or stiff back and shoulders, or soreness in the jaw. I have done some extensive research that deals with how a proper bite can be the catalyst for solving other common aches and pains.
Another thing I am very proud of is that Zarrella Dentistry partners with WAITT (We’re All In This Together,) which is a wonderful organization here in Ashland geared towards putting local businesses in front of non-profit organizations in the area. Visit them at: waittforcommunity.com
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I am so happy to see that more people than ever before are deciding to save teeth or replace bad teeth through implant dentistry. The bad tooth comes out and the new tooth (the implant) goes in its place. Like magic, your tooth is restored to its former glory! Back to that healthy smile and pain-free bite.
The way we view healthcare has improved by involving a team approach of doctors and other alternative healthcare providers like physical therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, and massage therapists to name a few. As a dentist, I can help coordinate a more effective, holistic approach in terms of prevention and eliminating disease in the mouth as well as the entire body.
