Meet Elliot Entis of LIFTLAB Skin Regeneration

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elliot Entis.

Elliot, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I founded A/F Protein, the biotechnology company that created LIFTLAB Skin Regeneration in 1991.

Through the 1990’s we conducted groundbreaking research on the properties and uses of a novel class of proteins trademarked as Cell Protection Proteins® (CPP). CPPs are natural proteins produced by a number of plants, animals and marine organisms that live in the world’s harshest environments, from the frigid Arctic to the world’s hottest, driest deserts. We discovered that CPPs work by “blanketing” skin cells and promoting skin production of more of the natural proteins associated with cell regeneration, healing, and recovery from environmental irritants such as free-radicals, UVA/UVB sun rays, heat and pollutants all the while attracting moisture to skin cells to prevent dehydration.

Until 2010 most of the Company’s research at its lab in Canada and at research facilities in the US was devoted to medical uses of the protein, focusing on the preservation of human cells, tissues and organs for long periods of time under cold and frozen conditions. While medical use of the protein continues to play an important part in the Company’s activities, in 2010 I turned our attention to the value of using the protein in formulations developed to ensure long term protection and improvement of skin, the largest organ in our bodies, and the organ most susceptible to damage from the environment. In part, this was accidental, a result of studies that showed that when CPPs were topically applied, they reduced visible damage from overexposure to the sun by 95%. We also had been receiving inquiries from some of the world’s largest skin care companies. And for a while we provided one of these companies with our protein. But we found that to save money the company was not putting enough CPP into their formulas to be effective. So we came to the conclusion that if we wanted skin care products with CPP to work as advertised, we should produce these products ourselves. So the LIFTLAB Skin Regeneration line was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a consumer product company is a guarantee that the road will not always be smooth. It is not enough to have a great product. You have to be able to get the message out to consumers that you have a great product and provide the proof. And that takes time, talent and money to effectively reach a large audience constantly bombarded by messages from competitors.

Particularly in the highly competitive skin care industry, messaging sounds similar from brand to brand. Everyone promises wonderful, almost magical results, in very short periods of time. To break through, a small company needs to continually provide real data showing real results and rely on consumers to help spread the word to achieve organic growth.

As a biotech company, we avoid the “quick fix” ingredients that rapidly improve the appearance of skin but are really masking it, not making a real difference. Our products work with skin, and since our skin cells turn over every 30 days or even less often, it takes a while to see the greatest benefits from LIFTLAB products. In our most important clinical trials (conducted by independent labs), we have seen that the greatest increases in skin firmness, elasticity and moisture content are seen after 6 weeks of use. Of course, we also see immediate benefits, particularly in the reduction of redness and irritation that causes premature aging from sun, derm treatments and conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Now after several years in the market, we are making our presence known through distribution on many internet sites, local boutiques and on a TV shopping channel.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LIFTLAB Skin Regeneration – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
A/F Protein is a biotechnology company specializing in understanding how the unique class of proteins known as Cell Protection Proteins work to protect our skin and other organs from environmental damage while also improving skin renewal. We are the world’s only producer of purified, natural Cell Protection Proteins. We provide these proteins to researchers and medical centers around the world as well as using them in our LIFTLAB skin care line.

With regards to LIFTLAB, I am most proud that we have never compromised on our core values:

We are true to our heritage of medical research and biology, backed by 25 years of clinical research with Cell Protection Proteins®

Each LIFTLAB ingredient has to have a known and clinically-tested benefit for skin.

Each ingredient must be incorporated at a concentration clinically proven to be effective.

Each formula is built around Cell Protection Proteins®, and then enhanced with specific ingredients to maximize the product’s ability to address specific areas of skin protection and regeneration.

Our team of scientists and researchers continues to innovate and explore for new, effective ingredients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am Bostonian, born, bred and educated. I have lived in many places, including Washington DC, San Francisco and elsewhere, but I never really left New England. I moved back to the Boston area in the early ’80’s after exploring life elsewhere and have never thought of leaving again.

Many things drew me back. The Cape; the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, the coast all the way up through Maine. The winters (I love a good snowstorm), and the change of seasons. Only Spring can be a downer when it refuses to warm up until late, sometime in June or even July.

But more, I enjoy the cultural atmosphere of our region. Our pride in education, our progressive attitudes, our infrastructure based so much on the value of knowledge and the desire to keep an open mind to new ideas. And, over the last 30 years or so, the tremendous growth of our food scene. Once upon a time we may have been a bit provincial with regards to food – “the land of the bean and the cod” is a great heritage but that required broadening. And now we are a “foodie” city, with great diversity. More fun for all.
