Meet Daniel Cohen of Ideal Properties in Newton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Cohen.

Daniel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My family immigrated to Boston from Cape Town South Africa, so I guess you can say transition is part of my DNA.

Though my family and I settled in Newton, we bounced around Mass. I grew up not really feeling settled in my environment, while my parents worked hard with a dream to own a home.

Real Estate is connected to so many parts of our life web- It has always been a dream of mine to contribute to others growth and to be a positive figure in the community.

That’s were I always start from, my values- working hard, never quit, faith, always learn and grow, be kind, help those when you can. These are just a few of the values that I hold dear, but each one played a role in my survival growing up- and in business.

My experience in business actually started in the Fitness Industry which I still am passionate about. I learned sales, built relationships which I still cherish to this day, and developed self-confidence communicating, selling and an understanding of basic marketing. I also learned the power of compassion, listening, structure, schedule, and having systems as well as mentors.

I had tremendous success at many commercial gyms, and built a career that has continued now for over a decade. Something was missing and my ultimate dream was to become a homeowner myself and a builder of communities.

My story was not a smooth transition to Real Estate, actually for me it was quite difficult for me to actually dive in. Why? I was scared, I had a lot invested in my clients and into becoming an expert in coaching.

What helped me get over my fear were three experiences:

1. I left a large client base and a small gym to start at a brand new luxury gym. It was hard leaving clients and a place I knew well. I took my first leap into the unknown, moved and within first year was one of the top personal trainers for the company in the country.

2. The Luxury Gym closed. I took my first leap out of corporate gym setting into working for myself. Slightly larger leap.

3. My continued pursuit of education, training, attending Anthony Robbins seminars always had me writing down Real Estate as a priority and major life goal. I then picked up the Robert Kiyosaki book Rich Dad Poor Dad, which directed my passion to action steps and to build my financial education.

Education is one of the best cures for fear. Learn, meet like minded people- it will catapult you forward

I attended Real Estate Networking events, joined Networking groups and began connecting with others in the industry I desperately wanted to enter.

Several friends and clients owned their own successful brokerages and development companies, I was able to reach out to them and have great conversations about their experience and how to make money in Real Estate.

Reading and studying Real Estate became an obsession.

I signed up for a mentorship program designed to kickstart your career as an investor; and began to practice the required skills. After getting my Real Estate License I started working as a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Westwood Office. I am happy to wear the hat of an investor and a realtor; it gives me the ability to truly provide full service Real Estate solutions.

A great reward I have today is the ability to help homeowners in difficult situations-purchasing properties in “as-is” condition and also offering cash.

Going back to my values, my journey has allowed me to work in congruence with all of them.

Has it been a smooth road?
My family didn’t like the idea about Real Estate as a career. They thought it was competitive and “hard”. I have been told by many people that I would not get my license. I lacked a financial education growing up, learning the hard way I found myself in debt.

When I first started in Real Estate I had very limited funds to invest in marketing. It took hard work and creativity to reach people I wanted to help.

I look at difficult circumstances as challenges to help me be the best version of myself. I tried to take lessons from all the negativity-to reshape them into positive life changing experiences that I can pay forward to the next person. These experiences told me that I am strong enough, I am bold enough because they made me stronger.

Working with like minded friends also helped me push through adversity, I built a strong network of experts, coaches, mentors and motivated friends.
