Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Poole.
The Maine Brew Bus was founded in September 2012 by Zach and Allison Poole, who realized that people in Portland might enjoy a guided safe ride to drink local beer at different small producers. Maine’s Original Brew Bus company began by offering tours on Saturday afternoons to a handful of breweries in the Portland area. With tours gaining traction in Maine, Zach (owner) and Don (GM) met with Spencer (co-founder Mass Brew Bus) and the three decided to take the tours South to Boston. With the experience in Maine and the local connections Spencer has in Massachusetts, they are excited to show off the growing Craft Beer Industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
Massachusetts poses some different challenges than Maine for instance, bus insurance is much more expensive! One of our biggest obstacles that we don’t face in Maine is TRAFFIC! Planning itineraries in the greater Boston area during rush hour has caused us to research traffic patterns. There’s also more events happening in and around the city such as professional sports teams, parades, and construction that it keeps us on our toes.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Mass Brew Bus – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide a behind-the-scenes look at Massachusetts’ craft breweries, cideries, distilleries, and more. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a well-versed designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for participating guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. Our close relationships with the owners and brewers have set us apart from other tour companies. Our guides are knowledgeable enough to give tours without interacting with our partners but we found that having a brewery representative tell their story and answer questions, gives our guests an intimate and unique experience.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There are so many fantastic things about Boston that I like but one of the themes that I keep coming back to is HISTORY. Our deep roots of the Freedom Trail and pre-Prohibition to our diverse culture built upon some of the best education and medical institutions make me proud to call this city home. I also like the fact that you can walk the city and personalities of the locals (we complain about everything like humidity or the cold slushy weather!) I think the thing I like least about Boston is the traffic.
