Leashrly Life is owned and operated by professional dog trainer, Angela Wilcox who is also the proud owner of an eleven-year old mixed breed pup, Maizie. Angela has worked with dogs for many years and enjoys the companionship and satisfaction she gets through Leashrly life.
Trained at Pawsitive Dog Training School for Dog Trainers by Mark MacRae, Master Trainer/Owner, Angela participated in intensive, hands-on training with a variety of breeds and temperaments. She has completed all requirements in the Dog Trainers Program and is qualified in all levels of obedience, behavioral modification, temperament evaluation, breed selection and basic medical.
To that end, Leashrly Life began by offering pet care services including dog walking, pet sitting and obedience training for dogs. Training provides structure for pets, while it offers participants the opportunity to learn patience, praise, repetition and proper communication with animals… “I wanted to use my passions in my everyday life. I didn’t just want to make a living, I wanted to feel good about how I was spending my day and making a difference in the world and in my local community.” says Ms. Wilcox.
Leashrly Life now has a wide range of pets it services and our staff of nearly 20 enjoy all aspects of pet care. It has been servicing clients in our geographic areas for almost ten years and is fully insured and bonded.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started out with my business, I was the one person who handled all the walks, overnight sitting, obedience training, scheduling, invoicing, communications as well as all the other important aspects of owning a business. After several years and an abundance of clients, I brought on my first part-time walker to help with the pets.
Later, I hired additional walkers and an administrative assistant to help with billing, collections, scheduling and other administrative responsibilities.
It has been a learning curve to some extent, but given the team I assembled and my background in marketing, I was able to focus my particular efforts on promoting the business.
It took many years to get it to the point it is today but I’m proud to say we have an exceptional reputation, wonderful reviews and happy customers which we consider to be part of our family. The business never began as a money-making venture but rather a way to provide an important service to our community while being able to delight in the joys of spending time with beautiful animals and at the same time enjoying the benefits of being outdoors and active.
Please tell us about Leashrly Life.
Leashrly Life specializes in the care of pets. We work with our customers to customize a service that works best for them and their pets. We are NOT a “one-size fits all” company. Each pet has different needs and each pet owner their own lifestyle. We always try to work with families to do what everyone thinks is best for all involved, whether it’s several visits a day, a day-care situation, a training issue, or a simple potty-break.
I’m most proud of Leashrly Life’s reputation in the communities we serve and the team of walkers and sitters we have assembled. It’s only through exceptional, caring, responsible service secured by professional, loving, reliable pet walkers and sitters does a company not only exceed but excel.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Spending time with my best friend’s German Shepard, Heidi! Heidi was a very protective guard dog who didn’t allow many people into the home without letting them know they had her to contend with. But I loved that dog and she loved me. I enjoyed all the time I spent with Heidi and was so fortunate to have had her in my life.
