Today we’d like to introduce you to Capt. Charlie Crocker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up on Plum Island Ma in the 70s, there was not a lot to do for a young kid, so I fished every chance I got. I caught all the local species of fish. After high school, I got a job on a Hampton Beach party boat as a mate. Did that for 5 years and got my captains license at the age of 23. I became Capt. and ran party boats for 10 more years. Also, spending many winters in Key West Fla, doing the same thing, after many years on Party boats, I wanted to move on. So I started leasing a smaller 35 ft boat and running private 6 passenger fishing charters. This went on for another 10 years, taking charters and fishing for giant Bluefin tuna. After getting married in 1998 and building my first home, I started looking for my own boat. This went on for years trying to find one I could afford and a good boat for chartering. After years of looking, I found it in Hummarock Ma. Renamed it after my wife and started my own charter business with my own boat in 2008. Today, myself, my wife Mistie and 2 sons Cody 17 and Jack 15, operate mistieccharters in Newburyport Ma.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Many challenges and a very short season fishing in northern NE fishing regs, high fuel prices, and high boat costs.
