Meet Paul Smith of Paul Smith Landscaping in Norwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Smith.

Paul, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started landscaping when I was 17 years old to provide for my newborn daughter. Worked full time for about 5 years and made my way up to foreman. Newly married and having a second child I was forced to changed careers for a non seasonal job with insurance. I stayed in retail for the next 17 years and continued to landscape part time. After being laid off twice, I decided it was time to take a chance and finally do what I love. That has led me up to where I am now.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been the toughest thing I have ever done, starting from nothing, no equipment, no money, and no customers. I started out taking any job whether I made money or not. Not having a steady income or even knowing when I will get paid again was one of the biggest struggles in the beginning.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Paul Smith Landscaping is a company that provides its customers with top quality professional landscaping services. We specialize in mowing, shrub trimming, mulching, lawn reseeding, Spring & Fall cleanups and snow plowing. We are known for being dependable, and attentive to the customer’s needs. As a company, I am most proud of the positive path it has been on since day one and watching it continue to grow into the company that it is today. It has been a dream come true. I think what sets me apart from others is the personal attention each and every one of my customers gets from me. I treat everyone’s property as if it was my own and that will never change.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a quiet shy child. My parents divorced when I was 13 and from that point on I’ve kind of been on my own. I have had to learn a lot of life lessons the hard way as I didn’t have much parental guidance. I can remember being about 10 years old asking my father if I could trim the shrubs and I was always mowing the lawn. Landscaping has always been my interest.
