Meet Shefali Jobanputra of Aligned Chiropractic in Newton Highlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shefali Jobanputra.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shefali. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my practice, Aligned Chiropractic, in Newton Highlands just last year, however I have 16 years of experience as a chiropractor. Prior to establishing my office in Newton, I worked as an independent chiropractor in Beacon Hill for several years and previous to that owned a practice in New Jersey before I moved to Massachusetts in 2011. I have always known that I wanted to be in healthcare and have always lived and believed in a holistic lifestyle. This philosophy is what led me to a natural healing art like chiropractic. I love helping patients and teaching them the importance of maintaining proper movement, posture, and alignment of their spine, noting that the spine contains a substantial portion of our nervous system. I help people through education, by using my hands, by providing adjustments to specific muscles and spinal segments in order to bring bodies into alignment. These soft tissue and structural corrections help to optimize muscle and nerve function so that each individual may maximize their daily physical and emotional function and well-being. I’m thrilled to be living and building my practice in Newton.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road because it is very difficult to build a chiropractic practice in an area in which I am relatively new. Patients tend to go to chiropractors that have been referred by a friend and had a solid good reputation. It is a bit challenging to acquire those qualities when one is new to an area. It takes time to build a reputation and a good solid patient base to help refer more new patients to grow a practice. I’m confident my practice will grow because I know that I am a great chiropractor. It just will take time.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Aligned Chiropractic – what should we know?
Aligned Chiropractic is a patient-centered approach type of chiropractic practice. I listen to each individual patient and evaluate many aspects of one’s life. All of the experiences in one’s life play a role in how one’s body responds to those stresses in their lives. My treatments are therefore multi-modal which includes spinal adjustments, extremity adjustments, myofascial work, ergonomic changes, diet, nutrition counseling, and exercise recommendations. I also have extensive training in sports medicine and rehabilitation.

I believe patients of all ages, including infants and children, can benefit from regular chiropractic care and am comfortable adjusting people of all ages.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband deserves quite a bit of credit for supporting my desire to start a practice. We both realize that building a practice can take a lot of time and energy which for us equates some time away from our young children. However, we both believe it is a valuable for our children to see us both as role models participating in the work force and contributing to society.
