Today we’d like to introduce you to Dovi Hirsch.
Dovi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My Story started in high school shop class, studying furniture making and cabinetry. While in school I started my own woodworking business DH Custom Woodworks in my garage. Several years later in 2012 I took on a partner moved to 2500 sq. ft. basement shop in Sharon owned by Barney and Carey Lumber. We named it DBI Woodworks. We began hiring a few employees and working on larger production projects cabinetry and furniture making and repair. We would buy the majority of our lumber and materials from our neighbor upstairs, Barney and Carey Lumber. Flash forward to 2015, the Lumber yard building was being moved to a new location in Avon and we put together a deal which merged our shop into the lumber yard, offering clients the ability to purchase lumber for their projects and/or have us build them for them. Over the course of the year we gutted and remodeled the building and moved in May of 2016 and opened our doors to the public December 2016. We are now a specialty lumber yard/ hardware store/ custom woodworking shop complete with a cnc router and 20000 sq. ft. of retail lumber and shop space.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No moves are easy, we spent an entire summer moving the lumber yard one truckload at time. We were also without any heavy power for machinery for the first few months getting our shop setup and had to rely on our smaller portable tools to get a lot of our projects done.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Barney and Carey Lumber Specialties – what should we know?
