Meet Jarek Mountain of Lion’s Tail in South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarek Mountain.

Jarek, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always work in the restaurant industry, ever since I washed dishes at my aunt’s restaurant in 8th grade. College brought me to Boston, I graduated from Suffolk University with a degree in marketing. I quickly realized the restaurant industry is where I want to continue to grow. I ran a small neighborhood bar before I got the opportunity to open Abby Lane as a beverage director. A year later we opened Back Bay Harrys, Lion’s Tail was a right place at the right time thing. I had an Idea and my investors had a space.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been on the opening team of three restaurants now and it’s never smooth. There are always setbacks with licensing, inspections and construction.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lion’s Tail – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I wanted to get back to the neighborhood bar scene but also have a great beverage program. We came up with the concept with that in mind and it’s exactly what we did. We don’t take ourselves serious and keep it unpretentious. There is nothing worse than walking into a cocktail bar and the bartender treats you like you’re stupid. Our job is to walk you through the process and try and make your drink and experience as pleasurable as possible. I am most proud of the team we have assembled. I couldn’t ask for a better staff.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We just hit our six month birthday so future plans are really a thought yet. We just try to stay on top with industry trends. Currently we are in the middle of a huge construction development so once it is complete there will be major changes to the neighborhood.
