Today we’d like to introduce you to Eli Angote.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eli. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Nairobi, Kenya and moved to Ypsilanti, MI for school in June 2000. I studied Computer Science and ended up switching to Economics but ended up moving to California before I finished. I worked in various sales roles at various startups before I ended up with a degree in Spanish from SFSU with plans to head to law school.
At this point I had started out a side business as a mobile notary specializing in real estate closings then started outsourcing to other notaries once I got busy. I eventually found a niche in supplying reliable, vetted notaries to Attorneys, Private Bankers and Executive Assistants and other individuals who needed a notary to come to them during the day. What set us apart was our convenient online ordering platform and our 24/7 availability.
We started off in California but eventually scaled our business into the Midwest and finally the East Coast. Boston became a huge market for us once we realized that a lot of banks such as Citizen Banks needed safe deposit drilling which require a notary present to verify the contents of drilled boxes. We have been their notary company of choice throughout Massachusetts and beyond.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building a company from scratch without previous experience is difficult. Predicting customer demand was difficult which led to some cash flow issues however I had a great deal of support from early advisors and friends who helped with the moral support to ride out those difficult patches. Developing software using outsourced teams to cut costs was also challenging and it took a lot of patience to navigate language barriers to get the job done.
Leadership can also be tricky when one has a problem with time management. I have slowly put in place a meditation and a mindfulness practice which has been helping me organize myself better and get stuff done including providing this material to the Voyager in a timely fashion!
TheBestNotary – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
TheBestNotary helps companies of all sizes increase their profits by dramatically reducing the time it takes to schedule mobile notary appointments and secure Apostilles.
Each month we arrange hundreds of appointments for busy individuals and companies across most of the 50 states with turn-around times as low as an hour. We have a database of over 60,000 notaries, 5000 of whom we have already worked with and screened for reliability and professionalism.
The key benefit to our clients is that from our website, they can evaluate the requirements for a smooth notarization, obtain transparent pricing up-front and set up the appointment immediately without having to dial a single digit. These customers have confidence that our proven reliability (Over 40 Five-star Yelp reviews), industry expertise and commitment to a long-term relationship will ensure that the job gets done right the first time and that we will be accountable should there be any hiccups.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me means, when people see my name or face, do they get a warm fuzzy feeling and smile. Do they immediately feel a sense of gratitude for how I have helped them in some way shape or form?
To me success means adding more value than I have received in any given situation. I have been blessed in endless ways and my goal is to empower my team, clients and anyone we interact with to achieve their very best. If we succeed at this we should see steady customer growth, reduced churn rates and sustained profitability which are also markers of success. However adding value is first and foremost.
