Moushmi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career in investment banking on Wall Street at Credit Suisse First Boston. After several years in Global Corporate Finance and Private Placements I landed on an opportunity to become an entrepreneur. My 5 year old fell and hurt his arm. After an 8 hour ER visit and $5000 bill later for a hairline fracture my husband, Dr. Scharukh Jalisi, convinced me to explore the urgent care market for the Boston area. After my due diligence I realized there is an immense need in this market to give back to the community and have my own business and I became a Doctors Express franchisee in 2012 which is now called AFC (American Family Care) Urgent Care. We opened our Watertown location in May of 2013 and have since been providing quality affordable acute care at convenient locations. We opened our Arlington location in July of 2016.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle was educating the community about urgent cares. Bostonians were not aware of this concept unlike residents of other states such as Florida, Texas, and California where urgent cares were more common. It took a while for us to share the benefits of an urgent care visit such as low copays then local ER and quicker turnaround time. We offer Rapid lab testing and state of the art X-ray imaging at both our Arlington and Watertown locations.
