Meet Robert McBride of Bobby Mac’s Mobile Sharpening

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert McBride.

Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my journey with food and all things Sharp as a dish washer/ Prep cook at the age of 10. I work with a Neighbor who was a Chef/ Owner of Renee’s Catering Scituate, Ma for several years. 1979 At the age of 17 I joined the US Air Force, and served as a Cook being stationed on the Island of Oahu, Hi. Throughout my culinary career as a Chef/Manager I have worked at many Styles of Food Venues.

In 2008, I found myself Unemployed…Life’s Pause allowed me to do some Soul Searching. While on-line Word searching Business opportunities I found Mobile Sharpening Service located in Maui, Hi. Wife gave the Thumbs up for further inquiry. Flew to Maui and spent a week on and off the road with the Master Sharpener. I concluded that this was something very doable and most importantly sat well with my wife. Kiss the Wife and Children. Then flew back out to Maui to begin my training.

I then began serving the Island of Oahu, for about a year and a half. There was once again an economic down turn, so… Not giving up! I decided to pack everything up and moved my business back here to Boston. Pressing on through the Good, Bad, and Ugly of the economy I knew that Excellence of Service, and Convenience would eventually pay off… and it has. Service’s offered: to anyone and everyone, Knife and Tool Party, or at a local Farmers Market. On site Sharpening for Restaurant Equipment and Chef’s personal Knives, as well as the Hair Salon Professional,

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The economic down turn, and Very Slow return…
