Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristan Lopez.
Tristan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a child, I had always found myself being the most expressive through art. I had always found great satisfaction in creating something that is my own; something that reflects the thoughts, emotions and ideas that are not visible to others in my head. Growing into my teenage years, I had begun to discover how makeup in particular had such a direct impact to those who pay attention to it. I realized that my love for creating art paired very well with the medium of makeup. My first attempted makeup looks were on myself and consisted of respectfully dramatic eye looks (usually inspired by lady gaga). By high school, I began to take things more seriously and earned my certificate in makeup artistry. Since then I have been climbing my way up the mountain that is the makeup industry; though the journey is still a long one, what I’ve gained so far along the way has been imperative to getting me to where I am now. My favorite part of my job is no longer just the artistry but the people. I’ve been so fortunate to connect with some many different people who, in actuality, are the ones who carry on the spirit of my work.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My move to the city was a little rough. I was living in central MA and had just accepted a job in Boston. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up, so before I had any money or a place of my own, I was living in my friends’ apartment with a suitcase full of clothes and nothing else. I was very broke. My parents were constantly having to send me money so that I could work my new job and afford to eat. It took a couple of months but everything fell into place and I am so grateful to my friends and family who helped me through that stressful time.
Tell us about your business – what should we know?
My business embodies the spirit of makeup. I love beauty, theatrics, runway, you name it. I challenge people to open their eyes to new ideas and experience for themselves how they feel when empowered by the art of it all.
I’ve been recently exploring my creative side with lips but I feel it’s safe to say when people think of me they think of brows. I love giving a beautiful structure to the face and its definitely the most requested feature that my clients entrust me to slay.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents deserve the most thanks out of anyone. They have put me through so much schooling and invested so much in me to be able to do what i want to do in life. My endless love and appreciation goes to them.
My friends are such huge supporters of mine and are always willing to be my on-call models whenever I’m trying new ideas. They were my shelter when I needed them and I could not appreciate them more.
