Meet Anthony Paparazzo of Situate Chair Company in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Paparazzo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Situate Chair started as a gift for my mom that turned into a thesis project my senior year at Wentworth. I made the first chair as a birthday present for her. Not being able to find the quality and style I wanted on the market I took to the drawing board to design and build my own. After the reaction of my family and friends and having to come home on weekends to fulfil orders I decided to take it to the next step and create a brand and add more pieces to my line.

After college I decided to give it a shot and dive into Situate Chair full time. Without the help of my family and friends Situate Chair Company would not exist! The creative mind and resources of my parents and the drive of my fiancé along with the help and support of numerous friends and family I have been able to grow my business from an idea in a sketchbook to a 4 man operation in a brand new facility in Marshfield.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any other start up every business has its struggles. The hardest part as a new business was wondering when the next order was coming in, being an outdoor furniture business in New England there aren’t too many people buying Adirondack chairs in the winter. Learning to deal with our seasonal jumps it has given me more time for research and development for new products. Fortunately for us we have been able to double our business each year mostly due to word of mouth and great customers.

Situate Chair Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Situate Chair Company is an outdoor furniture company, specializing in creating products for coastal living. Our 3 main principles for everything we build is STYLE, COMFORT, and DURABILITY. What sets us apart is our engineering and attention to detail giving us the ability to be able to work with customers to create the perfect piece for them.

Using high end, durable, and cutting edge marine materials and combining that with elegant style with a little modern flare was the basis for my first design and has held true through the rest of my line. Being the son of a cabinet maker and an Industrial designer the design process and creating new products is my favorite part of the business. We started with a single Adirondack chair back in 2009 and have grown to over 20 pieces in our line.

Another big part of Situate Chair Company is we buy all American made materials and our products are Designed and fabricated here in Massachusetts.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments are more of an ongoing excitement than a particular moment. My three favorite things that make me feel the proudest of how far the company has come are:

1. Driving around the south shore and seeing my products in customers yards and or on their porches proudly being displayed. It is just one of those feelings I will never get over, being able to say that I designed and built those chair.

2. Repeat customers. Having customers come back whether it is 3 months or 8 years later it is a very proud moment for me to know my customers enjoy my products and the hard work and detail we put into each and every chair.

3. Creating jobs. Although we are a small business, being able to bring work and business to my community is very fulfilling.
