Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Scales and Armani Reed.
Harry and Armani, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This business is the expansion of what was a very simple blog idea that Harry was working on several years ago. The blog was titled “A Blind Man Walking” and it served as a place for Harry to share his poetry & photography. We decided to take that blog idea & expand it into a company that would allow us to remain creative & provide us with opportunities to bring more ideas to light. From that original name, we came up with the name “Blind Co,” more commonly seen as “BLND.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a very smooth road so far, but we imagine many of the obstacles we’ve faced others endeavoring in the same field have also endured. Knowing that is part of the reason we feel we’ve been able to persist past those obstacles. One thing we do feel may have been unique to our own journey were the losses we faced in the family. Over the course of a few years, we lost a lot of family members & friends, both young & old. But what was at first something we were struggling to move past ended up becoming the motivation we needed to press on.
Please tell us about Blind Co.
Our business is an open ended point of creation & collaboration. It is our intention to express whatever ideas we come up with on our own, as well as, whatever ideas we come up with in collaboration with artists of all mediums, whether it be clothing, different events, or different projects. As long as the work we’re doing ties back into the pillars of the brand (love, courage & consciousness), we feel we’ll be on track with the company’s goal.
To this point, what we’re most proud of is seeing these ideas through to its fruition. There were times when it seemed like it would remain only an idea. It’s overwhelming seeing that idea come to light, even if it is only in its infancy.
We believe one thing that sets us apart from others is our unwillingness to box ourselves in. As we grow & our resources grow, we are going to be involved in a lot of different things. We truly feel the only limits we’ll have are the ones we create for ourselves.
