Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Rice.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been building companies for two decades now, I was 11B Infantry in the Army and when I got out I first started on Wall Street as a Corporate Trust Administrator for the Bank of New York 2 years later I was hired by Allcom in Florida as a broker buying and selling electronic components. A year later I started my own company Millennium Partners which went strong until 9/11 and 6 months later I lost everything because we thought the economy was going to bounce back and my turn key manufacturers just stopped building for too long. I had bought my first house at 21 years old and now at 23 lost everything. I came back north and worked on my family’s lobster boat out of Rockport MA. During this time I started to focus heavily on being a musician, I was a musician as a child but kinda got away from it while I was in the Army and working for Bank of New York. I picked up a sales job for yellow book selling advertising, left that job to sell print media for Sir Speedy Printing in the North End. Shortly after that I started ST Solutions in Boston, a graphic design business. That was right about the time Staples, Fed Ex, and UPS started to do print work and they could afford the big print machines that in turn made it much more affordable to go with them. As well desktop publishing was getting big at that time. I was still working on my music and got a scholarship to Berklee College of Music so I put all my energy into that. Now my life became a matter of odds and end jobs to support being a musician. Our band became the first one to be signed to CBS records after they bought their record label back from Columbia Records, shortly after we did the theme song for “The Rules of Engagement” with David Spade on CBS we were Senor Happy. That ran for several years and gave me the money to keep playing music. During this time I went back to school but this time at UMASS Boston for Nursing, and worked in Children’s Hospital Boston in the Emergency Room for 2 years until VINX the backup singer for STING asked me to do a record and tour with him. At this point I was filling in for Christian McBride and John Evans from Tori Amos, substitute teaching at Berklee and everyone was telling me to go back to New York City. I’m mainly an upright bass player so I left Boston and moved to New York City to live “the dream” I can say one thing I learned in life is that if you keep thinking one day I can’t wait to… or I wish I was.. You might want to try doing those things while you are young, because most of the time it isn’t what will make you happy and why waste your whole life waiting to do something? Especially if it wasn’t even possible. After 2 years of playing 6 nights a week in New York City as a Jazz musician I started to hate my job! I was fearful of totally not wanting to ever play music again and decided to stop. I went back to a technical school in Manhattan to get some nursing certifications in New York, while I was there I got hired to be the coordinator over the whole program. Shortly after that I was asked to go with the company that was consulting to the school to build new schools in New York City. I opened JMR Partners to consult to their company and in 2 years we had built three medical vocational schools, I thought I was doing something good until I started reading reports on how 40% of education loan debt is from students that went to private vocational schools and didn’t get good jobs. I was out of that industry quickly. During that time I bought myself a drone for Christmas because I just spent two Christmas holidays working! I really got into the drone and went through over 10 of them crashing and losing them but kept at it. When I moved back to Massachusetts my resume was a mess and I couldn’t even get a job at Home Depot, nowhere. I have a wife and I needed to figure something out, and I saw how drones had not really hit new England like New York City and saw a demand that I could supply the solutions to. I opened Zybodrone and it’s truly my best work so far, I have taken two decades worth of experience and put it all into this company because I really enjoy doing it every day. See drones are the new thousand garages like when the computer hit the market and the smartphone. People don’t know what to do exactly with this world changing technology and like the smartphone people are hesitant because it doesn’t make sense yet. Why would I get a smart phone when I have a computer? Well now years later we know why smartphones are great, well drones are going to have the same if not actually more of an impact on the economy. Billions of dollar’s worth of jobs will be gained and loss in the next 3 years because of the use of drones. Like our slogan “Safe Solutions to Dangerous Jobs” that is exactly what they are. A drone can safely measure a damaged roof without the risk of sending a person or crew up on the roof. It’s more affordable, safer and faster. Real Estate digital marketing is one industry that aerial photography is becoming a game changer. We try to be nice to people and let them know that they have to get on board with the drone industry, it’s not a trend and it’s not going away. The government is working closely with businesses to make regulations for commercial drone operations. I’m now at the point in life that I truly want to help other businesses and I have built a company ready for the next multibillion dollar industry. The only way I can set myself apart in this industry is that I have two decades of business development and failures plus I take my artistry as a musician and apply it to film making. We offer a complete package of doing the drone work for a company while training them to do it on their own so we can move on to other companies.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Zybodrone Aerial Technology – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I create the best digital advertising on the north shore, when it comes to making advertising the drone photos and video are just the beginning of our services. It’s what we do with that media that makes us different and helps the companies we work with. Creating a story with just a couple minutes and targeting it to the right audience and testing to see what works and what doesn’t has given our clients great results. We are raising the bar of Real estate marketing and you will quickly see in a couple years the Realtors that tapped into the world of digital marketing and the ones that didn’t. You cannot succeed in Real Estate today if your using yesterday’s tools and strategies, you need a digital marketing plan to meet the needs of modern consumers. Finding new ways to evolve to meet the needs of your customers has always been a critical component of any business, sadly too many Realtors are damaging their reputations and losing sales because they are not in tune with what works today. The new generation of people grew up going to the internet to buy everything, so it’s no surprise that they go to the internet when they want to buy or sell a home. Technology will make a company obsolete quickly if they don’t know how to use its power. The real challenge for realtors is how to position their business effectively online and how to tap into a lot of sales just waiting to be captured.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I always love Boston and keep moving back to it because it’s the most beautiful looking city, it’s clean and offers everything you want. As much as people think it’s a very conservative place, just look at how progressive we are with our politics.
The least thing I like about Boston is the huge amount of mice! And I say that because a Brooklyn rat looks like a possum besides a Boston mouse!
