Meet Ashley Longshore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Longshore.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I will skip you through my story… it’s more fun than walking… I’m a self-taught artist from Montgomery, Alabama, can you even believe this is happening? It’s totally improbable. I can’t. Bye. *raspberry

No, but for real though, my story is a story of self-love. Infinite hustle. No scratching around. I have worked every day and tried to push myself as far I as can… I have worked as hard as I could for every opportunity… I work harder now than I did when I had nothing… I love to work… it’s such an honor…

Please tell us about your art.
It’s my job to paint my thoughts. My art is about my own experience living in America in a consumer-based environment and my paintings are how I deal with it. Fortunately, there’s lots of relatability. I ain’t the only one with a dream and a hustle. I make art, chairs, sculpture, all kinds of shit. I’m an artist… that bleeds into everything! It doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks of my art… art is about relatability, it’s a shared life experience. I have things in common with some people and nothing with others… if I worried about what people thought, I would be painting cat portraits in Jackson square. I don’t give a rats ass. This art is about me… BYE!

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The role of an artist has not changed at all, there are just many more platforms for artists to be seen and heard. Thank god because artists are important than ever and they capture the many elements of life we share and the thread of community we have as humans living on a planet. It’s all about shared experiences.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
They can come to visit me in my studio in New Orleans, they can hop on and enjoy the ride on Instagram, they can visit my cafe at Bergdorf Goodman or come to one of the incredible pop-up shows I produce anywhere in the world.
