Today we’d like to introduce you to Owen McKenna.
Owen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our company started as just a few friends talking about a business opportunity using goats to clear invasive weeds and overgrowth. As co-owners, we both enjoy the outdoors and animals, so we found a way to combine the two creating a small business. We started out with a herd of 10 goats in September 2016. We now own 16 goats and are developing some loyal customers. We strive to provide an eco-friendly alternative for poison ivy removal and dense overgrowth control. Customer satisfaction is our number one priority.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like most startups, getting our product into the mainstream was a challenge. Through the use of social media, we have been able to spread the word to the public of our services. Satisfied customers create solid references which lead to word of mouth advertising.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Goat Guys – what should we know?
Our company is a small business which consists of three people. We wanted to offer an eco-friendly alternative to brush and poison ivy control. With the popularity of hobby farms popping up homeowners are shying away from the use chemicals for weed control. Especially homeowmers that raise honey bees. Our goats will eat broadleaf weeds, poison ivy, brambles, native grasses and just about any green leaf they can reach. This gives homeowners a safe way to control unwanted growth without using chemicals and heavy machinery. I believe that our commitment to our customers set us apart from other goatscaping companies. We offer an optional three-day rental at a discounted rate for those “small” jobs. We will set up in the thickest parts of the woods to a steep cliff. What ever keeps our cutomers happy! I am most proud of my business partners and their commitment to our business and our customers.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family is my number one supporter. My wife Kaelyn (a small business owner herself), has always supported me no matter what. My business partners Mike and Jackie keep our business moving smoothly. We support each other in any way we can. We truly are a team.
