Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Rivera.
Michele, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When I left the corporate world a few years ago, I dreamt of having my own business, I craved it, never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d end up in the sunless industry, but it has brought me so much happiness. Turns out, making people happy, makes you happy… it’s not rocket science!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My advice is to find effective advertising channels. I’m currently adverting across a lot of different mediums. I’m tracking them to see where my clients are coming from. So, I can see which ones produce ROI (return on investment). That’s key, every market is different and everyone has their own niche in tanning, you’ll know what works for you after some time, but you must experiment and evaluate.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Radiant Glow – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Honestly, I think it’s my service and custom tans. I love to work with my clients, they have become my friends over time. I see my clients in their most vulnerable state, you have to be able to put them at ease so they can feel comfortable with you. After my service, no doubt, are my customized tans. I create custom bronzers for my clients based on their unique skin tone. Just like a hairstylist will blend a color for your hair, I do the same for my client’s skin. I know exactly what will work best for any skin tone, you’ll NEVER look orange leaving my salon, only smiling bronzed beauties walk out my door. I love creating just the right color for my client’s skin tone, it makes for a unique and customized experience for them and they know they’re getting way better tan than a robot machine, nothing beats a personal touch!
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I’ve been fortunate that the supplier of my solutions offers a great Facebook Group membership, the support, and tips from staff and fellow airbrush technicians has been super helpful especially when I was first starting off. Now, I’m advising newcomers on tips and tricks. Definitely search for Facebook, there are a lot of groups for various industries and interests.
