Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Williams.
Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all began the first day of junior year in high school. I sat down in Mr. Harney’s Intro to Graphic Design, he began explaining what the class would be teaching, he talked about fonts and how they are an art called Typography. That day, I knew I wanted to be a graphic designer. After finishing my degree in graphic design, I wasn’t ready to sit in an office designing for a large company and thought why not be an art teacher to inspire students the way Mr. Harney inspired me, so I enrolled at Lesley University for my masters in art education.
After teaching for a while and being a nanny part-time for a family of three girls, one told me I should open a studio called Kelistic Studio. Fast forward four years and I began making graphic design prints as gifts and for family members to give as gifts. This quickly grew into a business and the only name that stuck out in my mind was Kelistic Designs. (Thanks Olivia) Kelistic Designs has grown so much over the past six years. I love creating logos, invitations, and party decor designs. I still create signage, prints, and gifts.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is never smooth. I’ve had many ups and downs. My biggest struggle has been working full time and raising a family while wanting and needing to create through my business. I often get challenges of things I’ve never created and that’s my favorite, I love a design challenge.
My advice for young women starting out is to continue to do what you love and what truly makes you happy. Finding happiness in your daily job leaves you feeling rewarded and successful.
Please tell us about Kelistic Designs.
Kelistic Designs is a small design business that creates personalized graphic design prints, invitations for any occasion, party decor, paper designs, and logos/marketing materials for small businesses.
I think what sets me apart from others is the one on one personal experience you get when you work with me. I try to provide high-quality materials and service in a speedy turnaround time. I’d like to think I help people’s visions come to life whether it be centerpieces for a party or a logo for their business.
Who have you been inspired by?
A lot of my inspiration comes from my mother and my aunts who are all artistic and love art.
My many art teachers along the way and the strong women I have in my tribe. My close friends are all extremely hard workers and inspire me to take the next steps.
