Life and Work with Madison, Lacey and Abby Rifkin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison, Lacey and Abby Rifkin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Madison, Lacey, and Abby. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Coastal Foodie started when all three of us went to college. Madi was on the East coast at Northeastern and Lacey and Abby were at Santa Clara on the West coast. We are triplets and grew up going to school with each other – Kindergarten all the way through senior year of high school. We found that we could connect through food. We would share food photos back and forth through text trying to see who could find the best dish. We then realized we could do this but through Instagram. That day, Madi created our Instagram. We couldn’t settle on a name at first calling it Mad_eats but then it eventually came to us that the name should be Coastal_Foodie. This was in December of 2016. Flash forward to now, 2018, we have over 22K followers and are now considered social media influencers. We aren’t really sure what clicked but everything seemed to align. The first few hundred followers were a challenge to get but after that our following base just seemed to grow.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t always a smooth road. When we were first starting people would constantly tell us to give up – that there are already so many food bloggers/Instagrammers. Others didn’t understand what we were doing and didn’t support our mission to create a food Instagram. We pushed through it all and continued on our journey. I would say that the team is the most important thing in making an idea become reality. Without the help of my sisters, this Instagram would have never taken off. We lean on each other for ideas, feedback, and moral support. We are each other’s biggest fans.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Coastal Foodie – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a blogger and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in social media influencing through food. We find the best restaurants/dishes, food brands, and food startups around the world and show them to our followers. We are proud that we were able to grow our following to just over 22K in just about three years. We represent the brands and restaurants we love. We are living the dream of going on food adventures with each other.

Who have you been inspired by?
We take inspiration from many strong women surrounding us. Our grandmother, Rella Rifkin, owned and operated a cooking school for many years. Growing up, we learned countless recipes and different ways to cook from her. Our love of food and cooking stems from her as well as our mother, Kirsten Rifkin, a chef in her own right. They both inspire our Instagram and drive us to continue with our passion. We also try to continue the theme of family throughout our Instagram which is why our cousins who live around the nation send us food photos and go to different restaurants for us.
