Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Gorowitz.
Ellen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Silver Woman has been in Newton Centre for about 17-18 years. It has had several owners. I purchased the store from the previous owner two years ago, May 1, 2015. I used to be an equity research analyst for 27 years at a variety of investment management firms in NYC, San Francisco and Boston. I retired from that business a couple of years ago and decided I wanted to do something completely different for my second career. I saw an ad for this jewelry store, I have always loved jewelry and decided to give it a try!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I have an MBA and know something about business, it has not been a completely smooth road. I have had a lot to learn about what type of jewelry will sell well at this location. Picking the right jewelry has been a challenge, but I think my customers are happy with what is available and what they purchase.
Please tell us about The Silver Woman.
This is a very small jewelry store. I specialize in unique pieces that are reasonably priced. I am proud of the many people who have told me how great the store looks and how special and beautiful the merchandise is.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is getting my first pug dog, Jennifer. Since then I have had three more pugs!
Pricing:
- Pricing runs from $15 for a small pair of silver stud earrings to $400 for an Ayala Bar necklace.
- There are many beautiful and unique pieces in the $100 range.
