Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Quihuis.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
As a life artist and comedic innovator, I’m always looking for new ideas that I can take an idea and twist and twist and then turn it inside out and upside down. So, not sure exactly when or where the seed was planted but it was a couple of years ago and I began going down the rabbit hole and research mermaids, then next thing I know, I am purchasing a mermaid tail and becoming Merman Adrian and going on many adventures from hitchhiking to Santa Claus Pictures to Joshua Tree to the snow! Merman Adrian has established his life on the mainland and loves it! And he’s not going back to Under the Sea!
Please tell us about your art.
My art is my life. Some people paint a canvas with paint, I paint my life with a mermaid tail. Just like a work of art, it’s about adding colors and layering the canvas and that is what I am doing. Each experience or adventure as Merman Adrian is a layer with an experience that no one has seen before and they get into enjoying it. So, I continue adding adventures and experiences.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
I think whatever you do as an artist or artistically, you must look at yourself as a business. Things have changed these last ten years. There is a shift for anyone and all that is artistic or have something to say or do. You are now a business and you can monetize every aspect of your craft.
