Meet Robert McInnes of Mortgage Network

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert McInnes.

Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Mortgage Network has been around since 1988 and is the largest independent retail mortgage banker left in the Northeast. I started the company with my Colby College fraternity brother, Al Pare, in order to create a better customer experience. Doing what is truly right for the customer and not just giving them what they want kept our customers and Mortgage Network out of the big troubles that plagued our real estate market a decade ago. Today we have over 400 employees and 40 offices along the East Coast consistently achieving over 98% customer and referral source satisfaction.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The mortgage industry was plagued by reckless lending with little monitoring which has now translated into credit restrictions with overly restrictive implementation of new rules. These new restrictions have added costs and frustrations to the consumer impacting their time and money.

Sticking to your morals when it was unpopular can mean walking away from business that others wouldn’t, which is hard. Making decisions so that your customer and your employees have a home to stay in for 30 years or more means you don’t always get to make the most popular decisions but they are the most respected in the end.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mortgage Network, Inc. – what should we know?
As a mortgage banker we lend money on behalf of all the federal (FHA/VA/USDA/Fannie/Freddie), state (Mass Housing), National/Regional Banks (like Chase and Wells Fargo) and Local (over 20 local banks). We underwrite and close our loans bringing the money to the table on time. We are a fierce advocate for our borrowers and are always looking for the best terms to fit their needs. Our home grown award winning technology streamlines the process allowing us to take the time to provide the counsel that consistently drives over 98% customer satisfaction!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Doing the right thing every day is what makes people come back to us again and again.
