Meet Trailblazer Giorgina Uzcategui

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giorgina Uzcategui.

Giorgina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been very girly since I was little, and I knew that one day, I wanted to work with something related to fashion. The moment I found out that I could use my Instagram to show the girls (specifically my friends) how simple it can be to create a look I started doing it as a hobby. However, I became consistent about it and suddenly, brands started to contact me to collaborate and that helped me to get exposed. I realized I could monetize something that started just for fun, so I took the opportunity to do my first sip & shop event with Au Rate New York in Boston which is a jewelry brand that is very delicate and sophisticated. After that, I worked with many other brands and I am currently thinking of creating a jewelry brand since I love stones.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been easy like any other work I think. What makes it enjoyable is that I do something that I love. When we get ourselves out there, most of the time people will feel the freedom to judge. My advice is: do not let any of the negativity of others distract you from your goals. This would probably happen in any kind of work when you are doing something good.

Be unique, getting inspiration from people but always trying to do something creative that represents you.

Follow your instincts, if you think something is going to work and you like doing it… just keep doing it because it can work

We’d love to hear more about @giorginauzca.
I try to be as specific and natural as possible in my photos so that my followers can relate to it.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
We have always been facing challenges. However, this should not discourage anyone. Social media is a great way to expose and promote our skills, ideas, products and monetize them, It is very important for women to understand that everybody is beautiful and unique in their own way. Each one of us is good at something and I think we should try things until we find what makes us feel passionate about. There are thousands of opportunities but only a few people have the courage to pursue them.
