Conversations with the Inspiring Lisa Tverdokhlebov

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Tverdokhlebov.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hi, I’m a mom of two beautiful kids, Eddie and Emily. As far back as I can remember, I have always loved being creative. Whether it be with art or music, I have always loved to express my God-given talent through my creativity.

After becoming a stay at home mom in February of 2015, when Eddie was born, I began a quest to find the perfect creative outlet which I could be passionate about. In January of 2017, after Emily was born, I began to notice that it was increasingly difficult to find a winter hat for my kids that would properly cover their ears from the cold and not stretch out in a month.

At that time, I remembered that several years ago, my parents had gifted me with a small beginner sewing machine. That’s when a light bulb went off in my mind and I decided to try and make a hat by myself for my kids to wear. The feeling of having created my very own hat was indescribable and I was absolutely in love with sewing from that moment on.

After sewing a few hats for my own kids, I decided to see if other moms encountered a similar dilemma. This turned out to be the case, so my husband and I decided to open up an online shop. Having mastered hats, I began to try out creating various different baby clothing and accessories.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely hard in the beginning. I had to figure out how to run this whole handmade business. I wasn’t sure how to best capture my audience attention when there were already plenty of other similar shops out there. I didn’t know the right way to advertise my product and how to show people that my shop has its own unique style and story. One of the things that helped me the most with learning how to manage my business was to look at other handmade shop owners and asking for their help. Of course, there were plenty of mean ladies that were not willing to help and would push me away, but there were a lot more good and kind-hearted people out there that helped, explained, and shared some of their secrets with me as well as promote my shop. My word of encouragement to those who want to do something they love within the comfort of their own home is to try and never give up, don’t get discouraged, and ask for help. Like I said before, there will always be mean people on the way but there will also be a lot more kind hearted women that are willing to help and actually really want you to succeed.❤️

What should we know about Lux & Linen? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I create comfortable and stylish children’s clothing with vintage charm that grows with your baby.
Presently, we have a line up of several different styles of rompers, bloomers, blouses, and dresses each with its own personality. Whether it be for a day out at the park, a wedding, photo shoot, baptism or baby’s first birthday, my customers are sure to find the perfect outfit for the occasion. Each piece is handmade with care and love in order for my customers to have guaranteed quality and comfort without sacrificing style. I am most known for the high quality of each item because I tend to be very particular about all of the small details.

The thing I’m most proud of would have to be the fact that with this business I am able to do what I absolutely love while being able to spend time with my family, raise my kids, and stay on top of all the household needs.

I would have to say that the high level of quality is what sets my shop apart from the others. I make each item with the thought that this will be an heirloom piece for that family.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Being a stay-at-home mom meant that I didn’t need to look for a job that would support my family because my husband was already doing that. This led me to search for and discover something I am truly passionate about.
