Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Bruno.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sophia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have a B.S. in Exercise Science & Physical Education with a concentration in Health & Fitness. I have been a personal trainer for seven years and worked in various types of weight loss centers. My goal after college was to eventually start my own gym! Ironically, less than a year after graduating, the owner of my job at the time asked me if I wanted to buy it from her. This gym was my dream job, so naturally, I agreed! I became the owner of The Fit Bodi, Inc. located in the center of Sharon, MA. This gym is special! It’s a weight loss and fitness center JUST for women! I’ve always loved helping those who have serious health issues, we specialize in top of the line training and weight loss programs. All of our trainers have extensive backgrounds in health & fitness. Our mission is to help women of all ages reach their goals the healthy way!
For the past 6 years, I’ve been an NPC coach and competitor. Previously, to that the sports I played were soccer, alpine racing, track & field, rock climbing, softball, competitive swimming and so so much more! I was the captain for many years, helping my teammates and others that arrived to become their best!
I’m so happy to be able to help people in the south Boston area. Everyone deserves to have a great friend and an even better health coach. I may be young but that just means that I have so many years to help hundreds of more people rid themselves of disease and sickness.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting to where I am today has been less than easy. I suffered from health issues as a teen and was told I was never going to live past high school. This drove me to prove doctors wrong.
When I was a jr. In high school, I moved into my grandparent’s house to help take care of my grandmother who was bedridden for the past five years. She suffered from health issues that could have been combated with nutrition and exercise. This kicked off my drive to create a five-year plan to finish my degrees and start my own gym. In order to decide my type of model, I had to work in various types of gyms. Non-profit, corporate, private… what have you.
Fast forward to graduation, I had suffered losses within the 5 years I had moved away from home. My grandmother passed away, I had a horribly abusive boyfriend, I was living alone away from family and friends. Life was tough. I finished college and then a few months later, I was offered a position at an all females gym. I had yet to work in an all females gym so I took the position. Unfortunately, several months into working there the owner had to sell the gym. The first person she asked was me! Being that, my background was in exactly what was being offered to me, I jumped at the chance to make my dream come true! I just celebrated my year anniversary of working at the location and the 5th month of ownership on August 1st. I may be 25 but here’s for years to come helping people feel better inside and out!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Fit Bodi, Inc. story. Tell us more about the business.
The Fit Bodi and team specializes in what we call “special situation” individuals. So, those who suffer from an old injury to cancer and everything in between. We like to pride ourselves on the ability to help people with hard health issues that mainstream gyms and trainers aren’t educated in or treating. We enforce a stress-free gym and a place for our ladies to have “Mom time” or just a place to get out of their daily routine. Weekly, we offer mindfulness and meditation as well as other classes for the female anatomy. We also have an on-site massage therapist as well as other partners that offer healthy treatments. Our goal is that this is an all in one health hub.
I would have to say that the success of owning my own business at age 25 is my biggest accomplishment yet! I’m super excited to see what’s in store for years to come.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There are so many things out there that women can do!
I absolutely love my clientele because each and every one is a strong educated lady. Each one has a position that any man could do. These ladies are the most motivating, caring, loving people I have ever met. We have everything from nuclear engineers for MIT, IT engineers, doctors in various categories, professors and teachers of all, business owners, full-time moms, artists, nurses, lawyers and more!
Without ladies like this, we wouldn’t have safe communities and well-rounded children. Women can do everything, it’s important we show our strength inside and outside the gym.
