Meet Annmarie Linnane of Women on The Move in Marblehead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annmarie Linnane.

As a pharmaceutical executive, Annmarie was all too familiar with the problems inherent in moving. Uprooted and relocated 14 times during her career, she experienced firsthand the problems and challenges: harried packing, the rough handling of her precious possessions, the vacation time needed to supervise the movers – and walking into a new home piled high with boxes.

She knew there had to be a better way – and now there is. Purchasing an existing business in 2010, Annmarie has incorporated her personal experiences and her knowledge of efficiencies and professional customer service with a CEO’s business acumen to turn Women on The Move into one of the leading moving services north of Boston.

Proud to be a woman-owned business, Annmarie and her team of experts provide the kind of attention to detail and client-centered and stress-free move management she never experienced herself. In so doing, they significantly lighten the load of others in need of relocation services.

Annmarie is a member of National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM), the Marblehead Business Referral Network and has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The moving industry is very dependent upon the housing market so when that is down, moving is down. People do not realize that there are services that specialize in packing and home set up. When moving, people think their only need is for a truck and some strong men. They rarely think about what needs to be packed and once the realization hits them they are completely overwhelmed and subsequently always under estimate the amount of content they have and the time it takes to complete this huge task. Women on The Move (WoTM) can pack in 72 hours what it takes the average person at least a month.

People also believe that if they pack themselves then it is free. They do not understand that their time is also money in lost days at work, sleepless nights, missed time with children and events, multiple trips to the store to determine how many boxes and other packing supplies are needed. WoTM is selling a service, not a product and it is not always easy for someone to realize the value in that service. When you use a move management service you can actually save money with the hauler through more efficient packing and less supplies thus reducing the cost of the mover.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Women on The Move – what should we know?
Women on The Move are the pioneers in the concept of being the Architects of moving for both the residential and retirement communities. We offer a full array of services from which a client can pick and choose to tailor each individual move to suit each individual need. Whether a client needs downsizing, organizing, estate sales, junk removal/ cleanouts, or just packing and unpacking/home set up (with regard to home set up means that we make the beds, hang up clothes, set up the kitchen, organize the living space and remove all of the packing material leaving you with a fabulous new home to walk into and enjoy), Women on The Move can do it all. We warehouse our own quality packing supplies so clients do not have to determine what they need and where to buy them. We recycle boxes when we can to both save the client money and be as “green” as possible. Each client has a complimentary, in-home visit which provides us the opportunity to take notes, understand the client needs and determine the number of hours and amount of supplies needed as well as any additional services to make this move happen. The client is then provided with a comprehensive plan of action / estimate that is a detail oriented template for both us and the client to work from. We are extremely proud of the level of detail and attention given to each and every client. Our staff are women and men, all professionally trained packers/organizers that are employed directly by Women on The Move (bonded and insured) and are not subcontractors. They attend periodic training sessions to continually learn and improve upon their skills. When Women on The Move recommends Movers or any other contractor, they are only those that are the top in the field and we will work closely with them to ensure client needs are met and the level of service is always top notch. We only work with bonded and insured companies.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Women on The Move prides itself in the transparency of our billing process. We do not charge a project fee but instead charge an hourly rate based on actual time and materials used. At the completion of each job, the actual hours used are calculated and a physical box count is done to ensure fairness in billing.

Women on The Move also prides itself on the attention to detail given to each client, making sure all of their needs are met. A Team Leader is assigned to each client to be the on-site liaison on the day of the pack or unpack. Each client knows that they are important to us – we hold customer service to the highest standards.
