Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Monteiro.
Douglas, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My family immigrated to the United States back in 1999. Ever since we got here, my father has been working in the field of landscaping. He learned everything he knows from being in the field for almost 20 years. I graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from MassArt in May 2016. Even though I helped out with landscaping over the summers since I was 10, I officially made a career out of it when my dad and I decided to partner and launch our business in 2014. Through classes in horticulture and hardscape construction and hands on experience, I was able to learn more about the different aspects of landscape design.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. One of the hardest aspects of it is learning how to work with family and grow a business effectively through the use of communication and lots and lots of patience. It is a struggle to finding great opportunities to show how great our work is. We’re ready for a big job where we can really showcase our talents while instilling trust in our clients. With this we will be able to grow our business more effectively while keeping our clients happy and satisfied with our work.
Monteiro And Sons Landscape Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Monteiro and Sons’ Landscape provides you and your family with a well-designed and maintained outdoor living space that can be enjoyed all year long. Our jobs range from larger landscape design projects to weekly or bi-weekly mowing, to masonry work such as patios and walkways. We love to work with families and clients and take our time to brainstorm together how to make their outdoor living space something that they will love. The main thing that sets up apart from other companies is our dedication to not only our own family, but to our client’s families as well. We enjoy getting to know our clients and forming relationships with them that goes well beyond your traditional client-worker relationship. We work hard, and we laugh and fun while doing it.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career would be how we are able to triple in size in only two years. We started as a small company with only 25 clients and we have over 75 clients that we work for. It is a great feeling to know that you’ve built something and that we took a gamble and became successful.
