Meet Emily Rosenfeld of SoulMindBodyWork.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Rosenfeld.

Emily, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Over the years I suffered from chronic low back pain, migraines, painful periods, and digestive issues. Traditional medicine didn’t offer me any real explanation or relief so I made it my mission to heal myself. Anything that worked for me, I immersed myself in learning. I became a certified massage therapist as well as a certified Arvigo Mayan Abdominal Massage Practitioner under Rosita Arvigo in the jungles of Belize.

That was my introduction to the mind-body connection and the acknowledgment of the soul. I also came to understand the uterus as a woman’s center, and how it reflects the balance or imbalance of all aspects of her life. If you’ve ever suffered a broken heart, by a partner, a friend, or a parent, you know for yourself that emotions are experienced deeply in the body.

Evidence shows that your biography becomes your biology, but it is possible to heal old wounds and change the course of your health and your life. I wanted to understand ‘how’ and ‘why’ the body reacts to stress or trauma which leads me to the study of Somatic Experiencing, a technique developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine, a pioneer in the physiological approach to trauma recovery.

It explained exactly how incomplete stress responses leave bound energy in the tissue of muscles, organs, and cells and how it can be released through body awareness. All of the puzzles pieces came together for me. Embodiment Therapy combines ancient wisdom with the newest evidence of the body’s intrinsic ability to heal. I remain dedicated to learning and sharing this work with those who are seeking true healing, a deeper connection to self, and more enjoyment out of life.

Has it been a smooth road?
I built my career while on the move for my husband’s work. Over the past 12 years, I have lived in many different countries and states across the US. With that has come has both challenges and opportunity.

Although creating a traditional practice was not a possibility I have been exposed to many different cultures, have been able to learn from some incredible traditional healers, and have been fortunate enough to study with some of the leaders in the field of trauma recovery.

Out of necessity, I started online sessions to stay connected with clients and although I am now settled in California, online and phone sessions have allowed me to maintain a solid connection to people anywhere in the world, many of whom are in Boston. A place I still visit often and that will always feel like home.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SoulMindBodyWork.com story. Tell us more about the business.
I developed Embodiment Therapy to provide an alternative healing approach for women. Endometriosis, painful periods, fertility issues, hysterectomy, and menopause are just a few of the experiences unique to a woman’s body. There is a large gap between what modern medicine can offer and what is required for women to feel heard and find healing.

Embodiment Therapy provides an opportunity for women to get in touch with themselves on a deeper level, heal old wounds, and experience the world in a new way. People find me at different points along their healing journey.

Whether someone is looking to dive deeper into their spiritual path, is just beginning to realize that they want more out of life, or is at their wit’s end with their health or life circumstances and feel like they have tried everything, Embodiment Therapy offers a new possibility for spiritual growth, change of course, and healing.

No amount of reasoning can override our thoughts and feelings, so unlike talk therapy, we go directly to the source of those thoughts and feelings and work with the body’s experience to reveal and repair issues.

It is often our avoidance of uncomfortable emotions or sensations that blocks us from being, doing, and feeling how we want in the present moment. We work with this discomfort in bite-size pieces allowing bound energy to be released and for your body to integrate the new found freedom.

Together we identify the suffering, the cause of the suffering, what the end of suffering would look like, and the path out of the suffering. These four elements are present for any given issue but what unfolds is a natural and unique experience for each individual.

Everyone has a story and their own path to healing. I am here to provide gentle guidance and support along the way.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
Small workshops both in-person and online are in the works and in the future, I am looking into creating Embodiment retreats to connect with clients away from the everyday.

I would love to come together in a group setting in an environment that allows for ultimate exploration inside and out!
