Thanks for sharing your story with us Art. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Started at a young age learning to play the piano from my older brother who played the organ at a church in Baghdad, Iraq. At age 13, my family and I moved to the US and at that time I was focused mainly on going to college and getting a degree in the science field.
Fast forward at age 21 after college I began to learn the process of producing music using Pro Tools working with local hip-hop artists in the Boston area. I made several tracks with artists like Fatman Scoop, Nick Minaj (before she was famous) and Egyptian pop singer Tamer Hosny. I did that for a couple years then got into dance music (EDM) after listening to David Guetta’s songs and that’s when I bought a DJ controller to learn to DJ.
My first gig was at a local bar in Worcester, Ma where I worked with a promoter friend for college Thursday. We had built a good weekly night for couple months then got offers at other bars and clubs to work. Next was creating my own dance cd mixtapes to create a buzz in the New England area. I had made 12 volumes of my mixtape titled House Invasion where volume 11 was noticed by world known DJ R3hab via SoundCloud.
I then started getting back into producing original tracks and remixes. I started collaborating with all type of artists from all genres. In 2012, I wanted to brand myself and that’s when I started to change my image by wearing a big mouth Facepaint on my neck when performing. The Facepaint symbolized my passion for Art.
I was very nervous at first to change my image but it just felt right. In 2017, I met with a long time friend/producer who works at Warner Music in LA to collaborate on music. I was sent an idea to work on which then became Jason Derulo’s new single Goodbye with David Guetta ft. Nicki Minaj and Willy William. Today I am working on making a bigger name for myself nationally then hopefully internationally. 🙂
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a very tough road full of obstacles and always will be that way. I have just learned to never give up and keep going to reach bigger goals.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about DJ Art Beatz – what should we know?
I am a DJ/Producer/Remixer and I am known for the facepaint I wear on my neck while djing live.
