Meet Amy Tee of Amy Tee- experiMENTAL Comedy Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Tee.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started comedy 15 years ago. In the last 8 years, I have taken a more personal approach to the stage. I was diagnosed with bipolar eight years ago and have developed a passion to educate through humor. At the same time, I entered a lifestyle of sobriety.

Today, not only am I a comic but I also speak at local colleges and businesses sharing my personal story of recovery. On stage, I talk about everyday life from my marriage to my recovery. I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been anything but smooth. I destroyed a lot of personal and professional relationships with alcohol. I’ve had to start from scratch once I stopped drinking. I’ve had to prove I was no longer the person they remembered. I’ve had to manage my anxieties and overcome a lot of fear.

Another struggle has been being a lesbian comic in a primarily straight male industry. There has been a lot of discrimination that I would not have expected.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Amy Tee- experiMENTAL Comedy Therapy story. Tell us more about the business.
I am most proud of talking about topics that people shy away from. I am bringing awareness and education while keeping it light and fun. I give back to the community.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope to continue to grow and connect with as many people as possible.
