Meet Kashmir Asvaraksh of Hair by Kashmir in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kashmir Asvaraksh.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kashmir. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been doing hair and makeup my entire life. From my dolls to my sister to my friends in high school, I always loved making people over and having fun. While I was in college at Boston University I got a summer job working at a salon and soon fell in love with the industry.

A few weeks after graduating, I started hair school and I guess the rest is history! From hair school, I have gone on to work at some of Newbury’s top salons and have started an editorial career that has luckily brought me to work with everyone from the NFL to Candice Wu to New York Fashion Week.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The main struggle for me has always been just balancing the hustle with having a life.

Nothing when it comes to editorial is ever handed to you, for so long you work for free and work a million hours a week to establish relationships and build your portfolio. I never want to say no to a fun opportunity!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hair by Kashmir story. Tell us more about the business.
As the Kashmir of Hair by Kashmir, I am a hair and makeup professional who provides beauty services for everything ranging from runways to wedding days. I am also proud to work for Kevin Murphy, which is a global hair company, as a Diamond Key Educator.

I am proud to both work with their team at events like Miami Swim Fashion Week and getting to travel the country educating hairstylists in salons. I specialize in event styling, from updos to hair perfection for photo shoots.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck, but I do believe that if you work hard and always try to be a good person, those good things, and good luck will come to you!

I’ve been blessed to have many amazing people in my life who have led me to so many amazing opportunities, so for that, I am lucky!
